“Hall Field [MCRD, San Diego] was named in honor of BGen Elmer E. Hall, USMC, in recognition of his contribution to Marine Corps football. He played football from 1917-1925 and coached from 1919-1940. In 1924, then Capt. Hall was ordered to San Diego to start a football program.” 146
