NOTES
William’s birth certificate doesn’t give name, merely “male” Wootton. Not uncommon if they hadn’t decided on the baby’s name yet. Sarah’s maiden name given in William’s birth certificate as “Walley” but Samuel was the informant and may not have remembered correctly. His occupation is listed correctly as “cordwainer.”

48NOTES
Name is Betty on parish register, GRO certificates, Elizabeth in census records 1851-1861.
In the 1861 census there was another Haywood family just down the road (John widower with son George, his wife Mary, and daughter Mary Ann). Betsy’s birthplace given as Rempstone (later census records correspond to birth certificate -- Harby, Leicestershire.)
Betsy’s death of “senile decay” and bronchitis -- not surprising, given the health problems mentioned throughout the later letters from husband and children.
