Baseball Card Grader

Baseball Card Grader automates the process of scoring trading cards using a computer vision model.
Trading card collecting has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. More hobbyists are interested in finding valuation for their collection. Thus, several companies providing card grading services have emerged where cards are graded by trained professionals. Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), Beckett Grading Services (BGS), and Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) compete for market share in this space.

Increasing interest in trading cards has caused these services to become severely backlogged. Their economy services have been suspended and more expensive expedited services have wait times of several months. Hand-graded services are simply too slow.

The goal is to create a computer vision model that assigns a trading card grade using a high-resolution scan of the front and back of the card. This model will reduce grading time, so collectors can receive a grade for their card sooner. Grading will also be more objective, less prone to human error, and ultimately more reliable. Thus, grading services will be more valuable.
