Lap Counter

Project Title About Our Lap Counter

Our goal is to develop an inexpensive, low-profile, reliable system to allow a swimmer to track their lap count automatically while swimming. We plan to accomplish this by tracking data sent from a small Bluetooth beacon on the swimmer’s goggles to a smartphone. This project will involve the development of methods for analyzing the quality of Bluetooth signals in order to determine approximate distances, even with the interference of water and other environmental obstacles. It will also involve the development of rules for converting the resultant distance data into a lap count. The final product will include a smartphone app and a small amount of off-the-shelf hardware, perhaps with slight modifications.
