2017-2018 Senior Project - Virtual Medical Assistant

Virtual Medical Assistant

Millions of medical procedures are done every year in the United States, and a key component to a successful patient outcome is compliance to the health care plan. This includes pre-screening, pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions, as well as patient satisfaction surveys. However, patients’ compliance and adherence to health care plans has always been an issue for healthcare professionals, with most medical practices communicating such information to their patients either in-person or over the phone.

Thus, there is a great need for an application to help educate patients about their pre-procedure and post-procedure care and provide them with reminders related to the required preparations. Such an application would also give patients access to the information relevant to their compliance and would increase satisfaction and overall patient outcomes. This is what the Virtual Medical Assistant aims to accomplish. The system will be composed of both a mobile and web application. The mobile application will serve the purpose of educating patients about the pre-procedure and post-procedure care and provide them with reminders related to their given procedure. The web application will be utilized by medical assistants at the medical facility to help collect and organize patient information via a pre-procedure questionnaire. It willalso generate a unique code, which the patient will enter into the mobile application to receive information and reminders related to their procedure.
