Probable son Marshall Avery gives father’s birthplace as Michigan.

1900 Hattie (41) is living at 189 Fifth St., Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan with son Marshall J. (13) and daughter Charlotte L. (11). Recorded as divorced, which makes sense since Fred Smith Avery didn’t die until 1912 according to Moorhouse. Claims only two children, both living. 438

1910 Hattie (52) is living at 752 Junction Ave, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan with son Marshall J. (24). Claims only two children, both living. 439

1920 Hattie (61) is living at 395 Myrtle St., Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan with an extended family--son James Marshal (34), daughter-in-law Ethel (28) and granddaughter Amanda (6); daughter Charlotte (32), son-in-law Albert hart (38) and grandsons Clinton (6), Bulla (3 9/12) and Dorothy (1 6/12). 440
