Notes for Henry Smith
NOTES
We know only that Mary’s first husband was a Smith, and Henry Smith looks like a good candidate. While two of her children listed on the Avery card (Fred and Annie) have Smith in their name (per Moorhouse), I have been unable to find any birth records or any death record for Henry, for that matter. Both Fred and Annie were born before the Ontario Birth Register begins.
Notes for Mary (Spouse 1)
CENSUS INFORMATION
1841 Mary (3) is living on LIttle London st, Wymeswold with parents and siblings. 156

1851 Mary (13) is living at 127 Little London St., Wymeswold with parents and siblings. 157

1880 Mary Avery (42) is living in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan with son Arthur (8) and daughters Annie (20) and Ida (16). Mary is listed as widowed. All children are recorded as “Avery.” 211

No matches in intervening census records. The following two records are suggestive.

1910 A Mary Reilly (72) is living in Detroit Ward 8, Wayne County, Michigan with son Frederick W. (49) (who is a widower). B212ut this may not fit because Fred Smith Avery’s wife Harriett (Hattie) was living in 1920.

1920 Mary Reilly (80) is listed as a patient in the Pontiac State Hospital, Oakland County, Michigan. 213

NOTES
Possible birth certificate GRO Mar 1838 Loughboro 15 138

Mary married three times--Smith, AVery, Riley. Moorhouse does not give first names but most children seem to be of the second marriage since they are “Smith Avery”
