The Institute for Healthcare Informatics is a collaborative effort comprised of
four schools at Drexel University: The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information
Science and Technology, the College of Nursing and Health Professions(CNHP,) the
School of Public Health (SPH) and the College of Medicine (DUCOM.) The interdisciplinary
nature of our institute draws together researchers, educators and professionals
from all healthcare sectors. Here we all have one common goal, understanding and
implementing changes required to make healthcare more effective, efficient and economical
for everyone, especially those in vulnerable populations.
Drexel’s institute focuses on the intersections between people, information and
technology. This approach allows the Institute for Healthcare Informatics to put
its best ideas to practice in the community. Our measure of success is how well
health data, information, and knowledge are incorporated into people’s lives so
that it is accessible to practitioners and patients alike.
These collaborative activities occur in three spheres of the Institute — research,
education and practice — with interdisciplinary collaboration to effect change within
Projects may be initiated at any one of the schools whenever a need is determined.
Work begins conjointly with additional schools as the situation requires.
The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology is
creating tomorrow's knowledge society. Students, faculty, and staff collaborate
to unite technology, people, and information to make a fundamental difference in
this knowledge society — a society in which citizens collaboratively and freely
create and share knowledge and utilize information and technology to promote growth,
prosperity, and well-being. Through coursework and real-world experience, research
and teaching, the iSchool educates citizens and leaders who will be the foundation
of this knowledge society.
Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) provides health
care programs that are innovative, clinical relevant, and technology infused. The
Center for Interdisciplinary Clinical Simulation and Practice at CNHP offers cutting-edge
clinical simulation training for all disciplines at the College, using state of
the art, high-fidelity mannequins and real actors in our electronic learning labs.
The Drexel University School of Public Health prepares graduates who can have a
positive effect on the health of the public. Our curriculum combines knowledge of
the core disciplines of public health with real-world, practical experience and
is designed for those who want to make a difference in the health of communities
and populations. A hallmark of the school is the significant experience our students
receive working collaboratively with community groups, agencies, and populations
to directly impact real-world public health problems.
The bio-enterprise is poised to lay the foundations
of the emerging bio-based industries of the next millennium. Drexel University in
general, and our School in particular, is responding to the challenge by launching
research initiatives in strategic thrust areas and by forming synergistic alliances
with partner institutions and industry. In keeping with Drexel's focus on technology,
its traditional strengths in engineering, and emphasis on experiential learning,
we are offering innovative academic programs and continuously upgrading our existing
curricula to educate the next-generation of biomedical engineers, biomedical scientists,
and health systems professionals.
