Library & Information Services Concentration

This is a generalist concentration that includes key professional skills and an orientation to both a work setting and a relevant elective.

Graduates of the Library and Information Services Concentration are prepared to work in a choice of settings and types of work.

Settings

  • Academic Libraries serve students, staff, and faculty at colleges and universities
  • Public Libraries serve communities of all sizes and types
  • Special Libraries offer unique opportunities to work in a specialized environment of interest, such as corporations, hospitals, the military, museums, private businesses, and the government

Type of Work

  • Public Services: Work directly with patrons, including such responsibilities as answering reference questions, teaching information literacy, and creating outreach programs
  • Technical Services: Organize catalog and classify information
