Drexel University's Institute for Healthcare Informatics is an initiative supported
by The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology,
the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the School of Public Health and the
College of Medicine. It is based at the iSchool at Drexel. An inherently
interdisciplinary field, healthcare informatics puts the needs of people at the
center of health information technology solutions. IHI brings together educators,
researchers and professionals from all healthcare sectors, information technology,
and the information sciences who are well equipped to solve the complex tasks of
system design, organizational change and usability that are needed to achieve a
21st century health system.
Located in Philadelphia, with its rich history in the health professions and offering
leading programs in the health professions and information science and technology,
Drexel is positioned to prepare the workforce to meet the nation's goals in health
information technology (HIT). Healthcare Informatics was named one of the top careers
in U.S. News & World Report, and the American Medical Informatics Association
estimates that the nation will need 10,000 professionals trained in informatics
by the year 2010.
